What an amazing experience today! The other U.S. teachers and I visited a public school, Elefante de Branco, and a private school, Marista. The Brazilian students of Elefante Branco were incredibly warm, kind, and passionate about learning. I was surprised at how engaged they were as learners despite the freedom they are given. Unlike many U.S. schools, students are free to walk about the hallways and use cell phones as they wish. Although the visit to Marista was also a positive experience, we didn't have as much interaction with the students because it wasn't during their normal school hours.

Overall, I am most impressed with Brazilian students' passion and kindness. I am looking forward to working with Alessandra for the next few weeks and developing string ties with her students.
